It's clear that the White House especially has not stood up for liberty and democracy in Taiwan. Kissingger and Nixon started it in this cycle.

I also agree with you that it's way overdue for Taiwan's people to wake up, to be fired up and ready to go.

But it's always helpful to have powerful friends in the world stage. Hopefully.

希望!yuyenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14579608520117377731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25229937.post-44199937010383227522008-01-11T03:46:00.000+08:002008-01-11T03:46:00.000+08:00Riki is right; Barack Obama was an Illinois State ...Riki is right; Barack Obama was an Illinois State Senator in 1997-2004. He won the U.S. Senate election in Nov. 2004 with ~70% vote in Illinois. But judged from his speeches and U.S. Senate voting records, I think he is very much against the Iraq invasion.

However, I think he represents the best hope in the 2008 presidential election for a change, even a transformation, in the partisan politics and policy in the U.S. He has done lots of those since his Harvard Law Review days. He became the first black president in Harvard Law Review's 104-year history in 1990.

I also hope that he will be nominated and elected, and will take a fresh and fair approach to deal with China's bullying and oppression against Taiwan.

Obama was not a US Senator in 2002. Nobody knows how he would have voted on the Iraq Resolution, if he were in the US Senate then. Saying the words doesn’t make it so. You can look up his voting history, if desired. It’s quite interesting. But no doubt, he’s an eloquent and inspirational speaker.

余晏上yuyenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14579608520117377731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25229937.post-78025899497353940332008-01-08T06:59:00.000+08:002008-01-08T06:59:00.000+08:00Taiwan's Obama, Please Come ForwardDear 余晏, How ar...Taiwan's Obama, Please Come Forward

Dear
How are you? Greetings from 石聖焞 (Donald Shih) in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.

I am glad that you are paying attention to and drawing inspiration from the U.S. presidential primary elections.

I am very happy and inspired by the huge turnout in a frigid January evening in Iowa for both Democrats and Republicans, especially the Democrats. I am also thrilled by the huge margin win by Barack Obama across nearly every group, especially the younger generation. I am not sure that the divisive politics in the U.S. is very changeable, but I
welcome a best opportunity embodied in Obama. It says so much for American citizens - Iowans
in this case - that an African American can win big in a state that is 94% white in population.

You may be interested in viewing the 1/4/2008 Charlie Rose video:
http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2008/01/04/1/politics-after-iowa

David Brooks was very good, Paul Begala was excellent, but remember this name, Miss Lylah Holmes - she was fantastic and moving. I was very touched.

余晏, all the best to you and to Taiwan.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
